Favorite Honors Experience:
Medical Humanities Honors Contract
As part of my Honors contract in Medical Humanities, I undertook a research project designed to connect academic inquiry with the practical realities of becoming a physician. The research required me to write a twelve-page paper supported by scholarly sources and interviews with practicing pediatrics, followed by a fifteen-minute presentation to my peers. My project explored the intersection of medical humanities, pediatric education, and ethics in medicine. By examining how narrative medicine, ethics, and the humanities inform medical training in both the United States and India, I was able to gain a broader perspective on how physician develop cultural competence, empathy, and ethical judgment in their practice. This focus was especially relevant to my own career path as I plan to pursue pediatrics.

Reflection
Through this project, I grew in both my intellectual and professional development. Learning from pediatricians’ real-world experiences and comparing medical humanities curricula across countries helped me to think critically about how physicians balance science with humanity. More importantly, I learned to articulate my own opinions on moral and ethical issues with confidence and clarity. These experiences prepared me not only for my future medical school applications but also for the realities of practicing medicine. I left the project with a deeper appreciation of the role of narrative and ethics in pediatrics, and with stronger research, communication, and presentation skills. This experience affirmed my commitment to a career as a pediatrician who values both scientific rigor and compassionate care.
